Course Description

The UK horticulture industry is worth over £5 billion each year. Businesses growing fruit and veg employ over 50,000 people, while ornamental plant nurseries and garden centres produce and sell millions of plants, generating thousands more jobs.

Production Horticulture qualifications are suited to those working in, or wishing to work in the production of crops both ornamental and edible. It is expected that successful candidates will go on to work in plant nurseries, commercial greenhouses or garden centres. To achieve the full diploma, individuals must gain 37 credits from a selection of mandatory and optional units including:

  • Monitoring and maintaining health and safety
  • Collect and prepare propagation material
  • Propagate plants from seed
  • Establishing crops or plants in growing medium

Each unit is assessed by a combination of practical observations and theory questions. The majority of students on this course will work in the Commercial Greenhouses on our Norton site.
