Course Description

The Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery has been developed for delivery in a training environment and has been designed to:


  • Develop learners skills and knowledge at this level.
  • Prepare learners to enter the industry in their chosen craft.
  • Prepare learners to take further qualifications to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding within their chosen craft.


These courses are aimed at those wishing to enter the industry in a Carpentry and Joinery position. Level 1 is suited to individuals who may have completed Level 1 Award and Certificate or have the relevant experience and are ready to be introduced to Carpentry and Joinery.


Course content


  • Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries
  • Knowledge of construction technology
  • Knowledge of technical information, quantities and communication with others
  • Maintain and use carpentry and joinery hand tools
  • Prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools
  • Produce woodworking joints

No formal entry requirements


Skills review

Ongoing practical testings (throughout the year)
Online end of unit testing (externally set)


Financial information
16-18 year old are fully funded

Not all students after 18 may need to pay fees, depending on your circumstances.
