Course Description


This is a Full time Study Programme delivered over 2.5 days per week (approx 12.5hrs) between September 2022 and July 2023. The Study Programme includes the core aim and a minimum of 120hrs enrichment is timetabled into the course which will help develop other skills such as communication, creativity, teamwork and leadership.

The programme starts with 2 mandatory units: Exploring Music and Professional Development. This will be followed by an optional unit, either Music Performance OR Music Production. Your final unit will be the Music Project which will be based on your optional choice and bring together the knowledge you have developed over your first 3 units.

Mandatory: Unit 1: Exploring Music - You will explore music creation techniques through practical workshops and activities.

Mandatory: Unit 2: Professional Development - You will explore a range of career opportunities with a view to their own professional development within the music industry

Optional: Unit 4; Music Performance - You will develop your musical skills in rehearsal and performance

Optional: Unit 5: Music Production - You will develop your understanding of how a digital audio workstation (DAW) is used as the central piece of technology for programming, recording and editing a music project

Mandatory: Unit 8: Music Project - This provides you with the opportunity to develop and present music in response to a commercial brief based on your choice in either the Music Performance or Music Production unit.

If you achieve a GCSE G3 in English and/or maths you will continue your GCSE learning to ensure you achieve a minimum G4.

If you achieve a GCSE G2 English and/or maths you can discuss this further with our tutors and decide if you would prefer to work towards and potentially achieve your GCSE G4 or take Functional skills and work towards a Level 2.

GCSE English and maths at G2 or working towards L2 in Functional skills English and maths.

FREE to 16-18 years old. Not available to 19yrs+ learners unless there is an EHCP in place.

Enrolment Process

Stage 1. Complete an application on Sheffield Progress or ask in the centre or via email for a RTC application form.

Stage 2. If your application is successful, you will be asked to attend an Interview either online or in person.

Stage 3. If you pass stage 1 and 2 you will be asked to attend a Crash Course at RTC in August 2022. DateTBC.
