Course Description

This course is for people with little or no previous wallpapering or painting experience. It will give the
individual sufficient knowledge to complete decorating projects, either around their own homes or as a professional.


These decorating courses can enable people new to plastering to save thousands of pounds on substantial DIY projects, set up decorating businesses, or add decorating to an existing trade – such as tiler or plasterer – for extra income.

On our painting & wallpapering decorating courses you will learn how to:

prepare old walls ready for a new finish
strip old wallpaper without damage
paste paper consistently. without contaminating the finished paper surface
fold pasted paper for long drops such as hall stairs and landing
hang lining paper on walls & ceilings
hang blown vinyl on walls & ceilings
hang patterned paper on walls
pattern match to minimise waste
continue wall paper patterns around internal and external corners
hang wallpaper into and around obstacles such as windows and doors
edge cut wallpaper neatly using scissors and blades
double cut patterned papers to continue patterns
place bold patterened papers to maximise the effect and design
apply emulsion onto new plaster to stop it peeling off
apply emulsion to lined walls and ceiling, to give even coverage in one coat
cut-in (paint to edges) for straight edges and corners
prepare old and new woodwork ready for undercoat & gloss
paint woodwork using oil based paints such as gloss
cover stains including old damp to stop them coming through
get round fixtures such as plugs, switches and radiators
use brushes and rollers
understand & apply the full range of wallpaper instructions
use a range of brushes and rollers
use pasting tables and adhesives

During these courses you will cover the following subjects:

Estimating and quoting to save money or make a profit
Simple advertising to get those first customers
Essential tools and equipment
